Between 30 October and 16 November 1998, Super Saintee Maggie Pettigrew from
Almondbank was trekking in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Still on a high
from the League Cup semi-final a few days earlier which saw the Jam Tarts
getting humped, Maggie sported her Saints shirt with pride.
The Nepalese people were great fun and very eager to partake in fitba at the
evening campsites. The pitches varied in quality from several levels of
terraced rice paddie to rocky hummocks with a couple of ski poles or a basket
for goals.
Maggie, despite being a girlie, was also keen to kick lumps out of
the predominantly barefoot Nepalis with her hiking boots. However, they didn't
seem to mind - most of them were too fast anyway, especially as the running
around was done at heights of 7,000 feet. Maggie was also the top scorer with
her highly successful 'Ally McCoist' tactic of standing on the goal line and
letting the ball bounce off her!
The highlight of the trip was a final Nepalis-v-Tourists fitba match.
Despite the now familiar Saintees shirt being sported by Maggie, the Nepalis
were unimpressed and humped the Tourists 5 goals to 3. Below are some memorable
photies of the trip showing Maggie in action with the Annapurna as a stunning
backdrop.

A McDiarmid Park-sized crowd begins to gather as tension
mounts in the "Nepalis-v-Tourists" challenge match.
Isn't that bloke wearing a Queen's Park shirt?
