327 of you, the fans, voted for a total number of
42 Saints players from 1990 to 1999, and what did we
find out? Exactly what we knew already - that Roderick
Grant was, is, and always will be, The Legend.
|

|
Barely had voting been declared open than it became clear that what we had on our hands
was a one horse race.
With each fan being given the opportunity to vote for their top
three players of the 90s, almost every vote received had a mention for Roddy
somewhere, and invariably it was for all three stars.
Such was the scale of the
landslide victory that second-placed Sergei Baltacha, the classy Russian sweeper who
graced McDiarmid Park during the stadium's early years, finished a full 179 stars
behind Roddy's amazing 423 star haul!
It seemed poetic justice that the ever-popular Saintees frontman had his efforts for
the club recognised in such a way by the club's supporters, particularly as season
1999/2000 saw Roddy take part in a well deserved testimonial.
|
The figures of The
Legend's career speak for themselves - top scorer in 1998/99 despite often having to
be content with a place on the bench, he earned himself a new contract and was
fittingly part of the squad that played in Monaco in the UEFA Cup on his 33rd birthday.
In two spells as a Saintee, a Perth career which was interrupted only briefly by spells
with Dunfermline and Partick Thistle, Rodders managed to net 79 times from 221 starts
and 64 substitute appearances.
Despite the clear-cut victory for Rod The God, there was rarely a dull moment in the
voting as supporters from all across the globe had their say on who should pick up the
accolade.
Highlights included votes for Swedish nightmare "striker" Peter Fhyr, the
amazing number of fans who voted for players from outwith this decade such as Henry
Hall (try reading the rules next time, folks!), and one mentallist who used the entry
form to vote for the Eurovision Song Contest!
So, without any further delay, here is the complete list of the players YOU voted for
and the number of stars each one received:
